Case Study

Metal Recycling Plant Machine Automation

RPS Metal Recycling is a Perth-based recycling company specialising in the processing of various commercial and
industrial metal scraps such as steel and copper. The high-density scrap is used as raw production materials in
manufacturing sectors nationally, as well as overseas. To support the continuous and ever-growing demand and
production for high-density metal scraps, a scrap shearer/baler machine required restoration and upgrades to current
technologies to ensure reliability and future support.

A local control panel located in the machine’s operator cabin is also interfaced to the new PLC, retaining the
existing machine operations which includes the control of left- and right-wing control for initial compacting, a piston-like
pusher for extrusion, a press for further compacting, and a shear for segmenting of pressed product.
