In a control system or operation technology environment, security of operation is defined as the ability to recognise an inappropriate or undesirable operation or condition in such a fashion that causes an appropriate alarm, a non-operation, or both.
This reflects on the importance of containing security operation as it can help to reduce significant amount of risk and provide assurance to the user.
The security of operation considerations are divided into the following three main areas:
- Operating practice and procedures
- Communication security
- Hardware and software design
Cyber Security protects computer systems, network, and data. However, the use of the term “security” in this section is not in the same context as Cyber. Historically, “security of operation” has been used to mean “assurance of operation.”
