Wagerup BESS SCADA Integration
ACE delivered SCADA integration for a 100 MW / 200 MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system in the southwest of Western Australia. The system brings 128 battery containers, 16 PCS inverter units and associated 33 kV and 330 kV switchgear into a central operator environment.
High-availability BESS SCADA integration
The project combined approximately 20,000 SCADA datapoints and 15,000 trends with redundant SCADA servers, PLC controls and a ring network. ACE designed the control and communications cabinets, developed the PLC and SCADA application, and completed installation and commissioning.
Key interfaces and engineering activities included:
- Battery management systems, inverters, switchgear and protection.
- Fire, air-conditioning and security-system monitoring.
- Remote monitoring and control interfaces for the neighbouring power station, Western Power and AEMO.
- GPS time synchronisation and operator access permissions.
Modular development and simulation testing
ACE used equipment templates and repeatable modules to manage the scale of the application. Python scripting helped reproduce PLC code, while reusable SCADA overviews and popups provided a consistent operator interface.
When vendor hardware was unavailable for factory testing, DNP3 and Modbus simulators and PLC simulation logic enabled checks of data mapping, alarms and equipment displays before site commissioning.
Delivered through commissioning and handover
ACE completed the scope on time, within budget and with customer acceptance. The modular approach also created a foundation that can be adapted to future BESS and hybrid solar-battery projects.
