Metal Recycling Plant Machine Automation
ACE supported a scrap shearer and baler upgrade for RPS Metal Recycling in Perth. The project focused on machine automation. The machine needed restoration and updated control technology to support reliability and future maintenance.
RPS processes commercial and industrial metal scrap, including steel and copper. It supplies high-density scrap as raw material to manufacturers in Australia and overseas.
Metal recycling machine controls
ACE connected the operator’s local control panel to a new programmable logic controller (PLC). This retained the machine’s existing operating functions:
- Left and right wing controls for initial compacting.
- A piston-like pusher to extrude the scrap.
- A press for further compacting.
- A shear to cut the pressed product into segments.
Supporting existing plant operations
The project combined updated control technology with the machine’s established operating sequence. The upgrade addressed equipment restoration needs. It also kept familiar controls available to operators.
